Nossi Student, Sean Williams, Finishes Second at Nashville Art Clash

Congratulations to Nossi student and Kappa Pi member, Sean Williams for winning second place at the Nashville Art Clash 2018!

Art Clash is a timed arts competition benefiting SmART Supplies, a thrift store selling art and craft materials while employing people with disabilities.

Creating live, in front of an eager audience, participants were given two hours to design a mixed media piece for a panel of judges to pick first, second and third place. Contestants could use materials from home and were also given required elements supplied by the competition. These materials were corks, old magazines, fake greenery and a surprise material, which were crayons.

Regardless of the timing element and unusual materials – Sean did what he had to do.

“I made a burlap octopus wrapping around a raw plank of wood. The corks were used as the suckers on the octopus and the rest of the materials were used to create coral and environment.”

We’re not at all surprised Sean did so well in the competition and we’re proud our students maintain an active role within the Nashville art community, especially when the event is for a good cause. The proceeds from ticket sales are used to support SmART Supplies’ effort to fund programs for people with intellectual disabilities such as employment training and residential support via Progress, Inc.

Sean Williams is an active member of the Nossi Community, he is a Kappa Pi past president and will be graduating within the next year.
