Nossi has partnered with Performance Studios Inc., Nashville’s leading provider of costumes and cosmetics, to host the Winter 2014/2015 Nossi College of Art Screenwriting Competition. This unique annual contest celebrates the richness of storytelling and its related artistic disciplines. Taking a script and turning it into a moving picture requires help from generous companies like Performance Studios. The professional quality they offer customers is unmatched in Nashville. Video and Film students at Nossi College were encouraged to submit their original scripts for a panel of faculty and administration to review for our Screenwriting Compeition. Judges vote on their favorite scripts and the winners receive a gift card from Performance Studios. Amber Thomas’s What Faith Can Do was awarded First Place, with The Dome by Amanda Barefoot earning Second. Due to the high volume of impressive submissions, an “Honorable Mention” category was added to this years competition. The scripts of students Joseph Ebanks, Christine Graves and Paul Hampton earned this title.
This valuable opportunity allows students to turn their ideas into full-fledged short scripts and to gain a comprehensive understanding of the preproduction and story structure process. Video and Film instructor Hans Chilberg believes the Screenwriting Competition exists “..to energize students and the Video and Film program on the importance and fun of writing for visual storytelling. It also highlights students who have worked hard in this area. Having a strong foundation on the page is of huge importance.
